WHY DAILY EXERCISE IS IMPORTANT, A SCIENTIFIC PERSPECTIVE!

Myokines are proteins secreted by muscle cells, particularly during muscle contractions, that act as messengers, influencing various bodily functions and tissues. They play a crucial role in the communication between muscles and other organs, contributing to metabolic regulation, inflammation control, and overall health.

What are Myokines?

Myokines are a type of cytokine (a signaling molecule) or other small proteins released by skeletal muscle cells.

They are produced and released in response to muscle contractions, acting as messengers that communicate with other parts of the body.

Myokines can exert their effects in an autocrine (within the muscle cell itself), paracrine (on nearby cells), or endocrine (throughout the body) manner. 

How Myokines Work:

Autocrine: Myokines can regulate muscle cell metabolism and function. 

Paracrine: They can influence neighboring cells and tissues, such as fat tissue, bone, or liver cells. 

Endocrine: Myokines can travel through the bloodstream to affect distant organs and tissues, potentially impacting processes like glucose metabolism, bone formation, and brain function. 

Key Functions of Myokines:

Metabolic Regulation:

Myokines play a role in regulating glucose uptake, fat oxidation, and overall energy balance. 

Anti-inflammatory Effects:

They can help modulate the body's inflammatory response, potentially counteracting chronic inflammation associated with conditions like obesity and type 2 diabetes. 

Muscle Health:

Myokines are involved in muscle growth, repair, and maintenance, contributing to overall muscle mass and function. 

Bone Health:

Some myokines, like irisin, have been shown to influence bone formation and resorption. 

Brain Function:

Myokines like brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and irisin can influence brain health, potentially impacting cognitive function and mood. 

Examples of Myokines:

Interleukin-6 (IL-6):

A well-studied myokine that plays a role in glucose metabolism, fat oxidation, and anti-inflammatory responses. 

Irisin:

Involved in the browning of white fat tissue, bone formation, and potentially brain function. 

Myostatin:

A protein that regulates muscle growth and can be elevated in conditions like COPD, potentially contributing to muscle loss.

भगवद् गीता 3.10 मराठी

सहयज्ञाः प्रजाः सृष्ट्वा पुरोवाच प्रजापतिः।
अनेन प्रसविष्यध्वम् एष वोऽस्त्विष्टकामधुक्॥3.10ll

🔍 शब्दार्थ (Word-to-word meaning):

सहयज्ञाः = along with sacrifices

प्रजाः = living beings (creatures, people)

सृष्ट्वा = having created

पुरा = in the beginning

उवाच = said

प्रजापतिः = the creator (Lord Brahma or the progenitor)

अनेन = by this (sacrifice)

प्रसविष्यध्वम् = you shall prosper (or multiply)

एषः = this (sacrifice)

वः = for you

अस्तु = let it be

इष्टकामधुक् = fulfiller of all desired objects (like a wish-fulfilling cow)


अनुवाद आणि अर्थ :

ही एक फारच अर्थपूर्ण आणि विचारप्रवृत्त करणारा श्लोक आहे.
इथे "यज्ञ" म्हणजे आपल्या जबाबदाऱ्या — आपण ज्या गोष्टीसाठी या जन्मात आलो आहोत, त्या कर्तव्यांचा उल्लेख केला आहे.
भगवंत सांगतात की, आपण जर आपली कर्तव्ये निःस्वार्थ भावनेने, प्रामाणिकपणे आणि आनंदाने केली, तर त्यातून आपली प्रगती होते.

इथे एक सुंदर उपमा दिली आहे — आपले कर्तव्य पार पाडताना जर आपली नीयत चांगली असेल, तर त्याचे फळ आपल्याला कामधेनू (सर्व इच्छा पूर्ण करणारी गोमाता) मिळाल्यासारखे लाभते. पण याचा अर्थ असा नाही की आपण काहीही इच्छापूर्वक मागितले, आणि ते मिळेल.

खरं म्हणजे, जेव्हा आपण स्वतःचं कर्तव्य मनापासून, कुठलाही स्वार्थ न ठेवता करतो, तेव्हाच खऱ्या अर्थाने आपल्याला त्याचे उत्तम फळ मिळते.
"यज्ञ" हा शब्द ऐकायला थोडा कठोर वाटतो, पण विचार केला तर – आपण ज्या गोष्टी करणारच आहोत, त्या जर आनंदाने, हसत-हसत आणि मनापासून केल्या, तर त्या कधीच ओझं वाटत नाहीत. उलट त्या अर्थपूर्ण वाटतात.

या प्रकारच्या श्लोकांना समजून घेणं, त्यावर लिहिणं, आणि ते इतरांपर्यंत पोहोचवणं — मला हेच माझं यज्ञ वाटतं.
हा एक अध्यात्मिक सेवाभाव आहे.
माझ्यासाठी हे ओझं नाही, उलट आनंददायक कार्य आहे — आणि ते हसत हसत करत असतो.

 Interpretation in English:

This is a profound shloka with a deep philosophical message.

Here, yajña symbolizes our duties — the responsibilities we are meant to fulfill. It emphasizes that only through the sincere and selfless performance of these duties can we truly prosper. A clear roadmap for our growth and success is provided, but it’s up to us to walk that path.


The analogy used is truly beautiful: when we perform our duties with integrity, we receive blessings akin to Kamadhenu — the divine cow that fulfills all desires. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean we can simply wish for something and expect it to happen. Not at all. It is only when we carry out our prescribed duties with dedication and without selfish motives that we are truly rewarded.


While the word yajña or sacrifice may sound harsh, I believe that if we’re anyway destined to perform our duties, why not do them with joy and a smile? When approached with the right attitude, even our duties stop feeling like a burden — they become a meaningful and enjoyable part of daily life.


While it take some time and effort to read, understand and write about such shlok's , i consider it to be my Yagna(duty), to convey the good messages in Bhagwad Geeta. Have never considered it as a burden. I perform this Yagna with a smile. Hope you do the same🙏
